Level 1, North Qeynos

There is nothing safe to hunt initially in Surefall, so head out to Qeynos Hills. There are newbie mobs at the exit, but few of them, and also trains of skeletons from the ruins, so head all the way south along the path and cross into North Qeynos. At first you can safely kill rodents right next to the guards to reach level 2, if you haven't done that already with quests. Out in the general hunting area, kill rats and snakes for loot, they are non-aggressive. You will be attacked by decaying skeletons and gnoll pups, both of which drop small amounts of cash. Avoid fire beetles and Klikniks for now, as they will gang up on you. Rats drops a couple of items that sell for coppers (whiskers, ears, teeth) and some that sell for a couple of gold (eyes and skulls), as well as one, a plague rat tail, that sells for 1 - 2pp. Snake drops mostly sell for a couple of gold as well. If you can, loot any rat and snake corpses and the first fire beetle corpse you find; keep one fire beetle eye, as it is a necessary reagent for Flame Lick, a level 1 spell (the eye isn't consumed by the spell, so you only need one). This is also a good free light source for human druids.

Watch out for skeletons and gnoll pups that seem to be carrying a staff or a scimitar, and kill them. Use a scimitar to practice 1HS (train 5 points in this before you start to use it if you can), and replace your newbie club with either a splintering club or a cracked staff; the cracked staff is the better of the two. A rusty scimitar can be upgraded to a tarnished (1 better delay) with some sharpening stones and a forge; you can't get sharpening stones in Qeynos, only in Erudin and Halas - the latter being far easier to get to, obtaining a sharpening stone being something you will need to do for your newbie weapon. If you are lucky, it is just possible that someone may have sold some unused sharpening stones back to one of the vendors near the forge, and it is worth checking. The nearest forges are in North Qeynos, behind the jewelry store before the Temple of Life, and in South Qeynos near the Bards Guild, at the entrance from North Qeynos near the Monks Guild and Crows Tavern.

Very little technique is necessary at this point: you run up and start bashing. Between fights, heal yourself if you have enough mana. Make sure that you con a target before attacking, and restrict yourself to dark blue and whites.

Do not sell in Qeynos, especially not to Tubal Weaver, as you will get much better prices back in Surefall. By the time your inventory is full, you should be at least level 2, and more likely 3 or 4.
