PsiWin 2.1

One of the biggest complaints about the Psion Series 5 at its launch was the curious number of missing features. Psion have been gradually rectifying this, releasing EasyFax soon after the launch last June, and the Messaging Suite in December. The biggest outstanding problem has been the lack of synchronisation with address books. With the launch of PsiWin 2.1 in February, this omission has been corrected. The new release also adds in file exchange capabilities for sound and image files, and the ability to launch a file directly from the Explorer interface to the Series 5.

This is very good news for Psion, although I confess that it isn't very exciting. If they had built on the momentum of the launch and released this capability last year, I would have been very much happier about the Psion Series 5 and its prospects. As it stands, both CE and Pilot also support email synchronisation. While I can't find much of a use for this, there are people who do, and PsiWin still doesn't offer this capability.

Good news on the horizon is support for synchronising with Lotus Notes. I have been using this with EasySync for the Pilot from Lotus, and, although it lacks support for email synchronisation, which is promised for later, the integration feels very smooth.
