Psion Training CD

At one time, there were stacks of books on using and programming Psion's - from the LZ64 to the Series 3. But come the Series 5, and there is a lack of additional material. There are a few books on Windows CE, and a crop for Palm, but not for Psion. One new product that fills that gap is Steve Litchfield's 3-Lib Training CD - a bargain at 25 GBP. The CD runs on the usual Windows variations, using InfoCourier and the Lotus Screencam97 program, and it includes 53 movies lasting for 4 hours, covering topics including EPOC, built-in applications, programming, PsiWin, Internet applications and third party applications (Money and PsiMapper/GB). It runs from the CD, not requiring any programs to be installed on your hard disk (which is a good thing). Steve talks through all of the programs using the Emulator, and makes reference to the Series 5, 5mx and 7; the CD was produced before the Revo was announced. I didn't suffer from any significant glitches waiting for the sound to catch up with the video, but then I have just updated my desktop PC. One minor nuisance, and this is very minor, is that the sound distorts easily, even through my Cambridge Soundworks 5.1 speaker system. The scripting and presentation is up to professional standards, and it makes a pleasant change to have a presenter as knowledgeable as Steve saying his own words, rather than an actor reading from a script in complete ignorance of the subject matter.
