  1. I play a lvl 57 bst, and mercs are a fairly new thing to me still. I have a apprentice tank but in certain zones, (Mesa, Bloodfields, Draniks- fighting several lightblues, so on), it can have a really difficult time killing dark blues even with my warder and dot spells. I’ve been trying to read up on tanks and almost every one says a tank can solo some reds alone up to about 70. Why is this not proving true for me- at all?
Secondly, I play on the F2P and have two characters, I know I’m only allowed to have ONE merc play/fight at a time, but I’m not allowed to purchase a second merc. And when I go onto my second character, I can’t buy a merc either. I haven’t seen a single guide/anything as to how many mercs I can have. Can you clear this up please?

  2. For a tank merc to remain effective past about level 50, you need to hunt in zones from older expansions. This means that most Kunark zones remain useful 60-70, and the Hole is one of the best zones at 70. Reds are not really viable past 50.

Any type of account can buy extra merc slots with Station Cash in the marketplace; you start with a single merc slot. These extra slots are available to all character on the account, but each character has to hire their own mercs. You can only have one merc out at a time for each character. But, if you have multiple accounts, each account can have a character with a merc out.

So you should certainly be able to have a different merc on each character on your account. Do you have enough money to hire the merc?

  3. Ok, that (I guess) explains why I can go to Grimling Forest and take out five lbs but can’t even do a single db in bloodfields.
I have enough to buy a merc! Haha. I did notice my second account was able to hire a merc which makes sense to me- 1 account 1 character 1 merc, but my second character on my main account, couldn’t buy one. So do I need to buy one merc slot for the second character then?
And I do understand that 1 merc at a time rule, I just want my second character when I play just her, to have her own merc.

  4. Every character on your account can have a merc; and extra merc slot would permit every character to hire two. If you aren’t allowed to hire one, it could be because you don’t have enough money, or you are trying to hire a merc that your account doesn’t qualify for. Any type of account can hire an Apprentice 1, so perhaps you should start there.

  5. I figured out the issue with my side character. She had a merc but I was not allowed to suspend or unsuspend the mercenary because “I did not have the membership”. It did FINALLY after several log in and log out’s, dismiss the mercenary and now I have a new one I am able to suspend and unsuspend freely. I understood what type of mercenaries I was allowed to have, there is automatic answers on the chat box that can explain that. But my issue was I guess some sort of glitch with my account.

  6. That’s great, Mariah. I’ve had similar glitches with a couple of my characters: mercs would show as unsuspended when they weren’t, and so on. I guess that would have caused the same issues with hiring. I had to resort to a couple of petitions before it was sorted out.
