Psion Messaging Suite

At long last the Psion Messaging Suite has been released. It was originally promised at the launch of the Series 5 in June for release in July, then later this summer. It was finally released to the public in November 1997, after a time when it was available to EPOCWorld subscribers (Psion's developer support programme) for testing. The Messaging Suite includes support for fax, Internet email and web browsing, but also includes the TCP/IP drivers that were supposed to be part of the EPOC32 operating system. It takes just under 2 Mb of free memory to install, but requires at least 500K free to run. Psion Series 5 owners with a 4 Mb model are unlikely to be able to install it, but users of the 8 Mb model, or those with large CF memory cards will have sufficient space. If you have already installed EasyFax (another free download released in July), this fully replaces it, and EasyFax must be removed from your system before installation. I am reasonably happy with the suite so far, but I'll give a long term review in a future column.
