Kael Manor for Armor

by on Jan.27, 2003, under Equipment

from eqclerics board:
Kael Manor Cycle is, IMHO, the fastest way to get your plate wearing classes geared for moving up to HoT…. And the fact of the matter is you really only need your plate classes (ie. warriors first) equipped before you move into HoT.

Yes it would be nice to get the silk wearers, chain wearers, and leather wearers some armor too, but in reality the casters and priests are going to be hiding from the AE’s in HoT using walls. And their time will come in HoT. If your guild still balks at only doing the manor (or you need a bit of +CoV work) then go 2 Manors then 1 Arena runs.

If your in a guild that is approaching the velious armor stage in it’s development then only focus on Kael long enough to get 2 to 4 main tanks fully or near fully equipped (it will help alot). Divide this other time by improving your weapons for all melee classes by farming Tawro and Radiir in Umbral every time you possibly can. The weapons they drop, while maybe not uber in some eyes, are tremendous increases in dps for guilds at this stage. The increased dps from the UP weapons plus having a few tanks equipped in Thurg armor will make HoT easier and it is not a huge time sink. Figure on about 2 good solid weeks doing the above 2 items and you should be ready for your initial run at HoT.

Frontier Mountains Cycle

by on Jan.17, 2003, under Uncategorized

Same as for the Trakanon’s Teeth cycle – see this link.

There are two cycles
1] Goblins in SE – Giants in SW – Burynai in NW
2] Brutes in SE – misc. in SW – Sarnaks in NW

Cycle One:
Goblins in SE
a goblin headhunter – Goblin Head Spear
a goblin trailblazer – Goblin Trailblazer’s Knife
a goblin dustscryer – Dustscryer’s Cyrstall Ball
a goblin Iksar slayer
a goblin prospector
a goblin herb collector – Goblin Juntah Harvester
a goblin chieftan – Chieftan’s Headdress
a wandering stone healer – Goblin Soul Caller
Rockwolf
Blugtigin – medicine totem
common placeholder “a goblin raider” (has to have “a”)

Giants in SW
a mountain giant prospector
Goblinstomper
Gromlok – Gromlock’s basher 30/85 2hb +3 str SK WAR
Krenlek – Skullhelm of Krenlek
Overseer Miklik – Gem encrusted circlet +1ac +6int NEC WIZ MAG ENC
common placeholder “a mountain giant hillock”

Burynai in NW
a burynai treasure seeker
a burynai grand cenobite – Belt of the Cenobite
Bonedigger
Stonegrinder – Stone Thunder
Gem Eye – Gem Finder
Dustback – Dusty Breastplate
Eboneyes – Ebon Razor
common placeholder “a burynai miner”

Cycle Two:
Brutes in SE
Boogoog – Cracked Branch
a rabid brute – Helm of Brute Strength
a diseased brute – Rotwood Club
a berserk brute – Glowing Club
a mangy brute
common placeholder “a gorging brute”

misc. in SW
Miner Bordakin – giant – Skullchip Bracelet
Joojooga – brute – Gauntlets of Brute Strength
a goblin coward
a goblin scavenger
a sarnak bloodbinder
a sarnak rebel – Necklace of Defiance
Burynai Squad Leader – Rusty Mining Pick (heehee)
common placeholder “a mountain giant hillock

Sarnaks in NW
a sarnak assassin – Wind Runed Dagger
a sarnak scavenger
a sarnak mystic
a sarnak seer
a sarnak warlord – Ring of Dominance
Clazxiss – Windetched staff 3/20 1hb +20mana Effect-careless lightning RNG DRU
Slithinis – Slithinis’s Shield
Varithx – Sleeves of the Ancients
Draketamer – Scale hide whip 8/22 1hs RNG WAR
Bloodscale the Vicious – splattered veil +4ac +5str RNG PAL SK
common placeholder “a sarnak dragoon”

Killing a MoB from a cycle in SE makes one spawn in SW, killing that one makes one spawn in NW, killing the NW one makes one spawn in SE. (thus the cycle

All giants and brutes and sarnaks are rumored to have rare drops. I have just listed drops if I have personally looted them.

SE corner – a 30 to 40 group or even a 30 to 35 group if well balanced. Tracker is a MUST. Position this group near the Dreadlands tunnel and have the tracker SOWed, lev’d and pulling to you. Rangers preferred as tracker here but druid or bard will work.

SW corner – higher end group – camp on the south wall near -3300, +2000 or -3300, +1500. On the wall near those spots you can find a place where not much will aggro your group. Make this group the higher group, consisting preferably of level 35 to 45 or even higher people. A couple of the SW corner spawns are blue into the low 50s and can have a ton of HP so higher is better here. Tracker here can be any of the tracking classes.

NW corner – ranger is a must for this corner. All that you need here is a ranger and one other, say an SK. Higher levels are better. If you get one of the nasties, just yell in guildchat that you are bringing Bloodscale (or whoever) down to the SW corner group and pull him in for the kill.

Each group leader is responsible for telling, in guildchat (or via tells if not in same guild), when their group has complete a mob and what mob it is. That way, when the SW group kills a particular giant, the NW group knows which list is about to pop and that they need to look right then for the new mob.

If your trackers are good and you don’t get distracted killing non-cycle mobs, you can run a cycle in about 5 minutes tops. Figure a dozen cyles per hour, go for 3 hours, and you can haul some nice items out of Frontier Mountains.
Cycle 1 is easy to get started. Just kill the rare in the SE corner or ANY “a gorging brute”, then run to the SW corner. Chances are that the SW corner will have popped a rare…then onward to the NW etc. I got my sleeves the second time I ran the cycle. Varithyx is very easy, Claxiss is a tough one. I killed him but only after he got to about 20% from gobbies.

Biggest problem I keep having is getting aggroed by random mobs…tons of monsters in the mountains there. If you get aggroed, you can root and easily run out of their aggro range usually. Keep SOW up always and Levitate if possible, very helpful in the mountains.

Everquest Tips

by on Jan.11, 2003, under Hints & Tips

Targeting

Use /rt to target the last person who sent you a tell.
Press to swap to you and your previous target (and back).

On raids, make a social or hotkey with /tar Arthur. Especially for MT and any enchanters.

Use /tt to send a tell to the person targeted. Works on corpses! /tt Hello. Need a rez?

Press r then to cycle through all the tells you have recieved.

If you can’t target a dead mob in a wall, /target a_scarab’s corpse0 then /loot it. For live ones it is 2 digits (may be /tar Spiderling01 etc)

When on a raid, don’t run around looking for players in the mob. To find Arthurpendrag, just type /tar art then Ctrl-I.
F1 to F6 is your group, F7 is nearest PC in view, F8 is nearest mob/npc in view. Hit again to get pet.

Casting
Put two /cast commands in every hot key. It catches 99%+ of your fizzles. Put a /pause 1 between the casts.
Use a horse. It is like FT 7. While on a horse you med while casting. Make the first line of all spell hotkeys /sit on.

Channeling works by loc and skill combined. If you end up in the same spot at the end of cast as the beginning, you will cast through it. So the corner is your friend! Try this. Say, above Kaesora in FOB, go to corner, cast CH, run around building back to corner, and spell will hit! This does not prevent interrupts due to bashes or stuns.

Stuns can be used to position mobs. The effect can be surprising. You will push the mob the way you are looking, so if you cast on a mob behind you, you can pull it!. Hey it IS magic!

Train in a magic skill by [/cast 1] [/pause 40, cast 1][/pause 40, cast 1]. Set spell 1 to a low level spell and cast on yourself while awaiting a port etc. Change the “40” to 10 times the spell refresh time.

You can tell if atone worked on a mob by doing /assist Also watch to see if it turns away from you to default direction (usu. North)

To cast fast after running, do a quick left/right before casting. This also helps cast through spells when being hit, if you are not in a corner.

If you zone with HP lower than your hp from gear, you lose all your buffs.

Healing a pet generates no aggro.

Spells

Cure disease will cure slow. Cure poison will cure Tash.

Use HP buff (Courage, Valor, etc) as a heal. Use Heroic Bond (group HP buff) as a group heal.

Don’t use Celestial Healing on mobs that ae dispel – ’cause it gets dispelled.

Spells always work on yourself. Practice evocation by chain blasting a weak nuke on yourself (via hotkey) while awaiting a transport etc.

Arrow key flips through spell book pages.

Keyboard

Use your keyboard as much as possible. If speed counts and lag is heavy, keyboard saves you.

Use /book 1, /book 3, etc to open your spell book to right page.

You can map you arrow movement keys to, say, e-d-f-s so you can move with your left hand.

Remap attack to ` or similar so you wont type it to an NPC by mistake.

Remap spellbook to b and reply to r.

/doability # or /do # will perform ability. 7 is for first melee ability. You can thus add bash, taunt, and LH to a hot key.

Disable attack on assist by typing /assist off

/clear will clear you default window.

Shift PgUp/PgDn scrolls the main chat up a page. Shift and Up/Down cycles through messages you have typed. Shift and number turns to that page of hotkey bank.

U opens doors in front of you

Rezing
If a corpse is in a wall or you cant see it, type /target to target the corpse. Then if withing 50 ft, you can /corpse it out of the wall. If the player is in the area, type /target
If someone else has the corpse targeted, assist them (/ass)
/loot will let you loot your corpse if you cant seem to right click it. Also works on horse

Two corpses to drag? Make a hotkey [/tar Arthur][/corpse ][/tar Lance] [/corpse] and drag them in one go.

Oops I looted all my stuff (or looted an empty corpse) and forgot to rez? Just wait 5 minutes or /q out. Your corpse will be empty but will still be there.

You can rez someone twice. No exp, but can bring them back.

Camping out

If a fight is going sour, log off or “camp out” Find a safe spot (where you think no mobs will pop without a pull), hit DA and camp. Fasted way is (Ctrl-S, Ctrl-X) You will go to the bottom of mobs aggro list. Get a tank to hit any mobs or they will come back and ruin you camp during last 12 sec. If an Enchanter casts Rune on you, you may even survive the 12 seconds of beating (as this absorbs the blows without you standing).

If you Ctrl-Q or /quit, DA goes off and you become an NPC for 30 sec. You will fight and heal yourself and wander about. You may die in a strange spot or camp out in a strange spot. But this can be the right choice.
If a Rez’er dies, rez them mid battle, but do not accept (or reject) the rez. Accept it when mobs have cleared.

Your root can last longer than 30 sec to camp. Camping clears aggro. So you can root, run, camp, repeat to sneak into some dungeons (e.g. Kaesora)

If you will drown and will not survive /q out. You will arrive (somewhere) with a full bar of air.

Other

Sell an item with 1 charge left of 10 to a vendor. Buy it back and it will have 10 charges. Does not save you money but is easier.
If you need a forge in Felwithe, there is an invisible one outside the bank. Walk straight out of bank, 5 steps, hit a wall, turn left, walk 2 steps, hit wall, look up and click.

Practice swimming in a pool against a wall with head up. Can go afk. You may die so do this before level 10

Sitting causes aggro. You can ping pong a mob between you and your tanks by sitting and standing.

A dropped sword points North.

With DA/DB you can save yourself from drowning, jump from high places, and even jump into the Hole from Paineel (Jump, then zone, then press DA while in the air after zone)

With DA/DB you will not teleport. Get Bestow DA on a druid/wizzy to turn a teleport into a group TL.

Holding down ALT with you mouse over an open bag or merchant window will show the names of all the goods.

All commands can be abbreviated to 2 or 3 characters. (/ta is tap not target)
CTRL on a stack picks up one. SHIFT on a stack picks up (or sells) all.

Holding both mouse buttons makes you run.

NumLock is autorun

Strafe running is faster, but hard to steer. This is particularly helpful when running from mobs. CTRL + left/right + forward. Also good when overweight.

Best price is at cha 105 or better.

Use “mouse-look” steering to swim.

Other camera views can help. Over head (first F9) lowers lag (good in Bazaar). Use 4th or 5th view to swim though gap into the Hole.

Press F10 then – to get a nice screen shot. Press f10 when following in a safe zone to enjoy the view.

You can make hotkeys of inventory slots (good for clickable items)

When meleeing, there is a red box around your name.

Large sewing kits make great backpacks since they hold 8 giant items.

Avoid faction hits by atoning, fd’ing, zoning, or /q before the mob dies.

Use instaclick items to reset your spell gems faster.

Plaguebone Thieves

by on Jan.09, 2003, under Leveling

Here is a suggestion for a good spot to camp lvls 44 to 49. The zone is the Dreadlands. The camp is in the lost valley just south of the spires to luclin. There is an abandoned empire with a HUGE set of spires and some pyramid type structures. If you head directly south from the luclin spires you should see it within a couple minutes. The mobs you will be camping are plaguebone thieves, a type of skeleton. The best part about this camp is the skeletons are totally NON ASSIST. So you can pull one, kill it, med up and then when you are ready, pull more. This camp is ideal for necro, pal, clerics, and perhaps shadowknights.

Here is what I do as a necro. I make a pet and set him to guard near where the grass meets the concrete. I then use the lvl 1 spell sense dead to obtain my target. I run in the direction of the mob until I can cast a spell, I pull with my undead slow. Once cast I run back to my pet. The mobs are inside the pyramid but no need to enter to pull them, you can pull through the wall. After a few seconds the mob will pop on top of me and my pet takes over. Once slowed and pet hasted its an easy fight. I get 1 percent every kill in lvl 46 and they respawn at a very nice rate.

I saw a cleric and war there duoing and they told me the cleric actually stacks his undead dots and nukes more than heals as its faster that way. Your mileage may vary but trust me, don’t overlook the advantages of a camp that you don’t have to search for mobs, that is safe, and with no wanderers. It’s a great camp so check it out. The xp runs out at 49 I’ve heard but I will definately be there until it does.

From: Iskar, Venril Sathir

This works for clerics, too – most are still dark blue at 50. Pull with a nuke, root, dot, then nuke out, reroot if required, and med.
