Useful Arrows

The basis of all fletching comes from Fletching Guide by Aoenla, which is old, but still valid today. (continue reading…)

Returning from 2004

by on Mar.31, 2011, under Leveling

2004 would have been… Gates/Omens time, I guess, when a lot of people left; EQ2 started, WoW started – and SOE leadership had been a disaster, with GoD so hated by normal players. ┬áNew since then: (continue reading…)

Hot Zones

by on Mar.18, 2011, under Hints & Tips, Leveling

What are “Hot Zones”?

These are zones that SOE want to encourage traffic to; in their announcement, they claimed that a Paludal Caverns level of experience could be maintained all the way up to 60. (continue reading…)

What to Do and When

by on Mar.09, 2011, under Hints & Tips, Leveling

This is a guide for current and returning players, who may be mystified as to what opportunities to advance their characters shouldn’t be missed. As many of these opportunities are from old expansions, and SOE’s crazy mudflation makes many things much easier over time, I will try to give suggestions as to when best to do these things. Classic Everquest

by on Jun.10, 2010, under Uncategorized

This discussion is a bit of a sore one on the EQ boards, so I’ll try to short-circuit it by giving a brief, and totally biased, summary. (continue reading…)

Everquest II: Starter Areas, 1-20

by on Jun.04, 2010, under Everquest II

by on Jun.04, 2010, under Leveling

Since the Secrets of Faydwer expansion, Everquest has been switching from a primarily grinding model to a quest based model like EQ2 and WoW. But there are many different sorts of quests, and EQ (like WoW and EQ2) has gone for single-play, non-repeatable quests, to limit the rate at which experience can be gained. However, when EVERYONE has to complete certain quests to gain access to new areas and join their friends who have already done so, certain issues arise. (continue reading…)

Qeynos, Freeport and Gorowyn: First Impressions

by on May.20, 2010, under Everquest II

What brought me back in recent weeks was the news that the next patch to EQ2 would remove the ability to start characters in Qeynos and Freeport (I am not entirely clear on exactly what the change will be). I wanted to run a set through the newbie areas while I still could. (continue reading…)

My history with Everquest 2

by on May.19, 2010, under Everquest II

I have played Everquest 2 for a total of 3-4 months, so I am certainly no expert. I tried it, didn’t like it, went back to Everquest. That was a trial month at least three years ago (might have been a lot longer); I bought it when I was out of Everquest and bored with WoW, and played for 2-3 months then cancelled; and I have been playing recently in the past month. Highest character to date is 21, so I have no basis to comment on the game beyond the newbie experience. (continue reading…)
